Press “record” button. Adjust your hair and smile.

To my 19 year-old self… Hey, how are you?

Wait, no need to answer that.

I know exactly what you’re feeling right now.

You’re no longer a child but not yet an adult. You’re about to face adulthood, a stage in life where no one knows exactly how to prepare for.

You’re probably doubting yourself because you failed that exam or because you lost that competition even when you gave your all – blood, sweat and tears. Your insecurities might be eating you when that person you like rejected you.

You feel like time is running out because until now, you still don’t know what to do with your life. You compare yourself to the people around you while they receive awards and honors yet here you are, contemplating on what happened to you.

You feel like you wasted all those years for nothing because the thing about human beings is that we spend our entire lives in fear that we’ll become failures.

You’re probably wishing for time to fast forward. You probably wish to be your 25-year old self already so you can earn money, escape your present, and start a new life.

But 19-year old self, it’s okay to fail. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to get your heart broken.

We are all wounded inside but I am telling you, as someone older and wiser, that we can still be happy and appreciate the little things in life.

Stand up. Leave it all behind but never forget to bring the lessons with you. Turn that mess into a message.

Out of all the things that happened or about to happen to you, I know that you are wishing someone will tell you that everything is going to be okay.

So here I am. Don’t worry, it’s going to be okay.

19-year old self, how are you? Please, reply to me.

I’m now 23.
